Evolution of new media

The world wide web and hypertext markup language based content - named after its ability to link to content by referring to its URL ( universal resource locator ) have dramatically altered the way we consume and create content here in the Western / developed wold.

This ‘linked’ online content boom led to a need for users to be able to retrieve only information that was relevant to their task at hand. This led to development of search engines that used artificial intelligence technologies to best guess what the user was looking for. The next step in development of the search engine technology was to make running search engines economically viable. This led to the development of targeted ads.

Search engines, targeted ads and blogging have a symbiotic relatioship that has enabled blogging to be viable. Blogs are disscoverable given ability of the search engine to link users to a blog that might contain information that they are looking for.

1. What do you think has been the impact of research and advancement of artificial intelligence technologies on blogging?

2. What do you see as the impact of advertisement revenue sharing on journalistic integrity of bloggers?
