How would our economy survive reliance on peer production?

  1. Benkler tells us that newspapers don’t rely on copyright.  I believe the reporters and photo journalists who work for newspapers do.  What would happen to a newspaper if everything they published was in the public domain? 
  2. Image all corporations took the Benkler approach and incorporated some peer production/open source into their business model.  How would our fragile economy survive on just the hopes that people would produce all these necessary things?  What would happen to the stock market? 
  3. Benkler talks about the importance of breaking up peer production in to manageable chunks like identifying the mars craters.  How does mechanical turk change this?  Why would people choose to do an easy miniscule task for free when they can get paid?
