Four killer edits from Mr Vitelli on I'm A Cliche's Cliche Breaks offshoot. The EP opens with Loft classic "First Time". The original has escaped my memory now, but it's a wicked groovin' jazz-funk / disco-funk tune with catchy keyboard riff and sweet female vocal bits. Next we have one for the Balearic heads with Vitelli's awesome edit of Fleetwood Mac's 1973 cut "Keep On Going", which loops up the folk-funk elements (strings, acoustic guitar etc) and gets in a real good groove, dropping the vocals in and out. Over on the flip, "Mater" gets all slapped bass and punk-funk on yo' ass (as they say...) and "Frydman" stays on the post-punk disco tip with a deep, low-slung percussive groove (diggin' the toy piano tinkling on this one!).

After a longer gap than intended, part two of the Cage & Aviary remix series lands with a bang. Truck are an enigma of a band, only forming when the astral alignments deem it appropriate. Cage & Aviary take the brilliant vocal into proto-acid-house territory with a killer bassline ready to move any dancefloor. Crude vocal cut-ups add to the 80s remix feel, while guitar licks, god pads, and all manner of prophet warblings come and go in a patchwork of angled sounds. Sinister strings cut through at the midway point before the superb outro vocal takes you home. For the dub, Ape Into Jam & Leo Zero put their heads together and push the track into more of a dancefloor place, employing arpeggiators to keep the cut and paste elements rolling along.

After their legendary first release on Viewlexx a few years ago, Matzo & Pauli return with a strong Italo / electro-dance EP on Cyberdance. This hotly anticipated twelve comprises four tracks, all guaranteed to smack you into the middle of next week, which is probably what Matzo & Pauli will do if you don't purchase this record. There's a distinctive post-electro-pop, pre-house EMB (electronic body music to you mate) vibe to opening track "Kommaah!", while "We Are" has more of a deep cinematic vibe. "Drama" sounds like it might have been culled from some obscure Italo album made by some dodgy bloke with a bad 'tache, and "GDC" rounds things off with more nu-beat style Euro-dance. You don't want to miss out on this one, it's simply killer!

Based in Venice Italy, William Bottin delivers a true modern Italo-disco tune for the dancefloor. Very much in the Metro Area mode (which was itself inspired by the original Italo sound of the late 70s / early 80s), "No Static" is a driving disco track with simple 4/4 rhythm, galloping syncopated bassline and uplifting synth pads and fills. There are two mixes here, a deeper 'Main Version', and a slightly tougher, slightly more upbeat 'Club Version', both of which do the do. Easy on the ear, great for the feet, this is one of those tracks to get lost in the smoke with at 2am.

"You Can't Hide Love", again in a similar bossa nova style, and again sure to work on the dancefloor.

The very last (honest!) of Honest Jon's Tony Allen remix / covers series brings us reworks by a legendary Afro-Colombian band from San Basilio de Palenque, a village established in 1706 by runaway slaves near Cartagena (where West African dance music has carried the swing since Nigerian sailors started bringing in records in the early 1970s). These three new cover versions were commissioned by Honest Jon's and organized by Lucas Silva (the dynamo behind the brilliant Champeta Criolla compilations), and then startlingly mixed by Moritz Von Oswald in Berlin. The result is a delirious brew of highlife and chalupa, Afro-beat and champeta. The 12" features "Samba", another version of the folk song "Awa Na Re" (from Tony Allen's "Lagos No Shaking" album), a homage to Nigerian musical heroes, in particular the great drummer himself. The burning horns are arranged by the all-time Colombian maestro Ramon Benitez. "El Lobo" tells the story of a wolf lost in the Palenque bush, and lastly "Aguata" - played in the tambora rhythm - is about rain.

The Underdog people are back with another double header of must-have edits: Side A brings us "You Can't Win", a track taken from The Wiz soundtrack, produced by Quincy Jones, and fronted by the instantly recognisable Michael Jackson (and the less recognisable Crows). This new Underdog edit combines original album mix with the rare 12" version, creating one big dancefloor smasher. On the flip is rare Staple Singers cut "Watcha Doin' Tonight", produced by legendary New Orleans funk-soul producer Allen Toussaint. This is one of their upbeat disco-soul cuts with a full live band backing, and is another cert for the floor. Essential!

After their opening salvo, the Discolexic crew return with another essential edits double header. First up is a heavily reworked edit of Edgar Winter's "Above And Beyond". This is a midtempo disco groover with gurgling clav keyboards and syn-drums going off all over. On the flip there's a beefed up, slightly dubbed out edit of Donald Byrd's jazz-funk / disco classic "Love Has Come Around", which you should all instantly recognise after its recent inclusion on James Murphy's "Fabriclive" mix CD. This track hasn't been available as a 12" (original or edited) for several years, making this an essential purchase.

The Discolexia crew arrive with Volume Three in their Discolexic Edits series, and what a killer it is too. The A side is a re-edited version of Billy Ocean's "Night (Feel Like Getting Down)" with an extended intro, deep pads, synths, strings and vocal delays making the draw, this cut has been de-flowered, spaced out, and is now packed and primed ready for dancefloor detonation. The B side features the sublime Tom Moulton produced Loose Change classic "Straight From The Heart". This beast loops the main refrain of the track subtly increasing the instrumentation until the whole dancefloor disappears into a freak time space continuum glitch, reappearing seconds later in a car park on King Street, New York circa 1979. Wow!
